Tuna & Yellowtail Fishing Mayhem | Nonstop Offshore Action
Step aboard one of the most storied ships in American maritime history — the USCGC Ingham, now preserved as the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham Maritime Museum in Key West, Florida. In this episode, we explore the 327-foot steel cutter that served for more than five decades and became known as the most decorated ship in Coast Guard history. Commissioned in 1936, the Ingham was built for long-range patrols, search and rescue missions, and life-saving service at sea. But when World War II arrived, this powerful cutter was refitted for combat and sent into the dangerous waters of the Atlantic. During the Battle of the Atlantic, the Ingham helped protect Allied convoys from German U-boats and earned its place in history with the confirmed destruction of U-626 in 1942. After the war, the ship continued serving through ocean weather patrols, humanitarian missions, and later, deployment during the Vietnam War. Today, the Ingham rests at Truman Waterfront Park in Key West as a National Historic Landmark and living museum. Much of the ship remains preserved as it was when decommissioned in 1988, giving visitors an authentic look at life aboard a working Coast Guard cutter. The tuna is cut into strips for the perfect fish-to-taco bite, seasoned with a flavorful blend of chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then quickly seared to keep the center beautifully pink. These tacos are finished with a fresh cabbage slaw, lime juice, scallions, shaved carrot, and creamy dressing, then served in warm tortillas with optional toppings like avocado, pico de gallo, cilantro, chipotle mayo, sriracha mayo, and lime wedges. Rub with olive oil and season with chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Heat a skillet or grill pan over high heat until very hot. Sear tuna 1–1½ minutes per side for rare to medium-rare. Remove and rest 2 minutes. Slice tuna thinly against the grain. In a bowl, toss cabbage with mayonnaise, lime juice, salt, pepper, garlic powder, scallions, and shaved carrot. Warm tortillas. Assemble tacos with slaw, sliced tuna, and desired toppings. Cook rice with water according to package directions. While warm, gently fold in rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Let cool to room temperature. In a bowl, mix tuna, mayonnaise, sriracha, soy sauce, and sesame oil until combined. Chill until ready to use. Place nori sheet shiny side down. Add an even layer of rice, leaving about 1 inch uncovered at the top edge. Place rice-covered nori into the sushi bazooka according to manufacturer instructions. Add spicy tuna, cucumber, and avocado in a straight line down the center. Close bazooka and press firmly to form the roll. Open and remove roll carefully. Slice into bite-size pieces using a sharp knife. Garnish as desired and serve. The Florida Keys are home to the continental United States’ only barrier coral reef system, a vital underwater ecosystem that supports marine life, fishing, diving, tourism, and coastal protection. In this segment, The Fish Guyz visit Plant a Million Corals on Summerland Key, Florida, to learn how coral restoration efforts are helping rebuild reefs in the Florida Keys and beyond. Co-founder Dee Dee Vaughan shares how the organization has grown from just 280 corals to more than 50,000 in three and a half years, thanks to volunteers, donations, and groundbreaking coral nursery techniques. Their facility is now capable of producing its first million corals, with a larger goal of outgrowing 500,000 corals annually and eventually producing a million corals every year — or even every six months. One of the most exciting breakthroughs is the ability to grow large, mature corals in a nursery in as little as 14 months, compared to the 25 to 75 years it can take in the wild. These adult corals can then be outplanted onto reefs, where they have the potential to reproduce and help restore damaged reef systems naturally. Healthy coral reefs do more than support biodiversity. They help protect communities throughout the Florida Keys and coastal regions from storm surge and hurricane impacts. The biggest challenge now?
